

AHEAD is a U.S.A. based professional membership organisation for professionals involved in policy development and in the provision of support and services to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities in all areas of higher education. With members is several countries including U.S.A., Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden and Greece. In addition the organisation has developed partnerships with approximate 30 other professional organisations. In addition AHEAD is involved in staff training via conferences, workshops, publications and consultation.
Since 1981 Mobility International USA provides programmes and services in areas such as: National Clearinghouse on Disability & Exchange (NCDE), International Development & Disability, MIUSA International Exchange Programs, Women, Disability and Development.
The National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE, 1995) works to increase the participation of people with disabilities in the full range of international educational opportunities by providing:
* A comprehensive website with guidance tips on disability inclusion and accommodations, financial aid resources, success stories, and networking opportunities
* Searchable databases on national and international disability organizations worldwide
* One-on-one free information services to individuals with disabilities, international exchange professionals, disability organizations, parents and school personnel
* Publications, brochures, videos, trainings, newsletters and on-line magazine on international exchange for people with disabilities
* Outreach and research on inclusion efforts for the participation of underrepresented groups in international exchange

The Association of University Centers on Disabilities based in Maryland, USA is a network that works towards advancing policy and practice for individuals with developmental and other disabilities. The network works closely with individuals, families, communities and other organisations. Nowadays AUCD represents around 67 organisations covering every U.S. state. It has affiliations with a large number of research leading universities and run a number of educational programmes and research centers related to disability issues.
Located at the City University of New York, the Society for Disability Studies (SDS) was founded in 1982 as a Section for the Study of Chronic Illness, Impairment, and Disability (SSCIID). The organisation was renamed the SDS in 1986. SDS is an international non-profit organisation that promotes the study of disability in social, cultural, and political contexts. The society recognises that disability is a key aspect of human experience. SDS identifies that the study of disability has a variety of important implications for the society as a whole, for both disabled and nondisabled people. SDS aims are to increase the understanding of disability in all cultures and historical periods, to promote greater awareness of the experiences of disabled people, and to advocate for social change.

The International Journal of Special Education (Canada) focuses its publications on issues concerning special education. The journal aim is to include a combination of topics covering both the experimental and theoretical approaches. The review of the manuscripts submitted is blind and therefore impartial. Manuscripts are reviewed by the Editorial Board and accepted article might be edited to archive clarity, organisation and length requirements.
Disability Studies Quarterly (DSQ) is a journal of the Society for Disability Studies (SDS) published by the Ohio State University Libraries. The journal is multidisciplinary and international and could be of interest to social scientists, academics, support staff, disability rights advocates, and others concerned with the issues of people with disabilities. The journal wishes to develop the knowledge about disability and to promote the full and equal participation of individuals with disabilities in society.
