

Founded in 1922 Melbourne University Press (MUP) was established to provide books, stationery and other support materials to students. In January 2003, MUP became Melbourne University Publishing Ltd – a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Melbourne. Currently MUP publishes in the region of 80 books and electronic products a year and maintains a backlist of about 350 titles. RMIT Publishing was founded in 1989 as a business unit of RMIT University, Australia. RMIT Publishing has a range of databases, and it is considered to have the largest collection of Australasian scholarly research materials available via the ‘Informit’ online service. ‘Informit’ offers a variety of databases and full content publications that deliver the majority of Australasian scholarly research to the education, research and business sectors. Southern Cross University Press was established in 1996. It focus is the publication of quality academic books that complement the research and teaching activities of Southern Cross University. The extensive catalogue includes works such as action research, business administration, cultural studies, knowledge management and environmental science. Southern Cross University Press is part of SCU Digital Printing Services and it is not longer publish textbooks or books for the general trade.
University of Queensland Press was founded 60 years ago. Since then it has been at the forefront of innovative Australian publishing. UQP is a dynamic university press known for its risk-taking philosophy and commitment to publishing works of high quality and cultural significance. University of New South Wales Press was founded in 1962 and since then has won many awards for its publications (such as The Prime Minister’s Prize for Australian History, the Ernest Scott Prize and the National Book Council Awards). Each year UNSW Press publishes approximately 70 books under three imprints: New South, UNSW Press and Choice. UNSW Press also develops publishing partnerships with a wide variety of institutions, individuals and organisations. In addition UNSW Press has a strategy to develop publishing partnerships with organisations and individuals. Also UNSW Press claims to be the only Australian university press with its own dedicated sales force. This is separate division called NewSouthBooks that focuses on marketing and sales. Based at The University of Western Australia’s Claremont campus UWAP was founded in 1935. The University of Western Australia Publishing is a division of University of Western Australia. Nowadays it has three imprints: UWAP, UWAP Custom and Staples. UWA Publishing (UWAP) focus is academic publishing. In addition its award-winning fiction and non-fiction works illustrate its strength and diversity. ‘UWAP Custom’ offers a ‘full-service’ and can project manage the publication of quality books for any organisation. That can include: editing, design, proof-reading, printing, binding and/or distribution. ‘Staples’ is the result of a donation by Charles and Joy Staples and was established in 1984. The main purpose of the Staples Fund is to make the results of research on the South West of Western Australia widely available and assist the further development of the South West community.

Founded in 1843 by two Scottish brothers, Daniel and Alexander Macmillan, the company launched ‘Nature’ its flagship and world’s leading science journal in 1869. At present Macmillan is one of the largest and best known international publishing houses. The company owns a number of brands, such as Macmillan Education, Nature and Palgrave Macmillan.
